Плеер из под вайна не лучший выбор, поставь лучше audacious например.

Вайн постаил? Зайди в свойства файла поставь галочку - права - позволить выполнять как программу

В твоем случае наверное проще всего поставить винду, раз уж жесткий всеравноформатнул, а затем поставить ubuntu 10.04.

Или установить винду, потом загрузиться с загрузочного диска ubuntu и восстановить grub.

В центре приложений в строке поиска введи ubuntu-restricted-extras - кодеки

Смысла ставить более раннюю версию нет, только если мышь не победишь. Кстати, в 10.04 такого глюка небыло.

установи wine он позволяет запускать виндовые приложения, так же есть playonlinux.

Драйвера стоят стандартные, вместо MS office - опен офис, для большинства задач подходит. Проги ставить через центр приложений. Установи ubuntu-restricted-extras - кодеки и прочее.

интереса ради, выложи свой лог загрузки.

Занимаюсь ускорением загрузки убунты, грузилась 80 сек, помогло отключение ipv6, теперь 26.
